The Armor of God
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spiritually Dressed For Success
Pr 20:18 (NIV) Make plans by seeking advice; if you wage war, obtain guidance.
The purpose of this Bible Study is to consider and meditate on the Scriptural meaning of each piece of the armor of
God, so that we might stand firm in the battles of life.
Eph 6:10-17 (NIV) ...Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armour of God so that you can
take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers,
against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly
realms. Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your
ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled round your
waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from
the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the
flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Why Spiritual Armor?
Rom 13:12 (NIV) The night is almost gone, and the day is near. Therefore let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and
put on the armor of light.
Jer 46:3-4 (NIV) "Prepare your shields, both large and small, and march out for battle! Harness the horses, mount
the steeds! Take your positions with helmets on! Polish your spears, put on your armour!"
1 Cor 14:8 (GLT) For if a trumpet gives an uncertain sound, who will get himself ready for war?
Stand!
Luke 21:36 (NIV) "Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and
that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man."
Mal 3:2 (NAS) But who can endure the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears?..
1 Cor 10:12-13 (NIV) So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall! No temptation has seized
you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But
when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
Jude 1:24 (Wey) But to Him who is able to keep you safe from stumbling, and cause you to stand in the presence of
His glory free from blemish and full of exultant joy...
Jas 4:7 (NAS) Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
The Belt of Truth
Eph 6:14 (NRS) ...fasten the belt of truth around your waist...
Isa 11:5 (NIV) Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash round his waist.
Ex 12:11 (NIV) This is how you are to eat it [the passover lamb]: with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals
on your feet and your staff in your hand...
1 Kings 18:46 (NIV) The power of the Lord came upon Elijah and, tucking his cloak into his belt, he ran ahead of Ahab
all the way to Jezreel.
Eph 4:25 (NKJ) Therefore, put away lying, "Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor."

The Beatitudes demonstrate the way to blessedness in Christ's kingdom
is far different from what the world perceives of righteousness.
The Study "Blessed are the Peacemakers" covers the following topics:
- Blessed are the Peacemakers.
- The Menace to Peace.
- The Messengers of Peace.
- The Merit of Peace.
III. The Messengers of Peace.
And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the
ministry of reconciliation [peacemaking]; To wit, that God was in Christ,
reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath
committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did
beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. 2 Corinthians 5:18-20
We are the messengers of peace. We are God’s peace corp in the truest sense. Many other scriptures talk
about this. For instance, Colossians 3:15, “Let the peace of God rule in your hearts.”; and Philippians 4:7, “The
peace of God....”shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
What do I do to become a peacemaker? Hear are three things:
1. Make peace with God yourself. Accept the gospel of peace. There was a day when we warred
against God, but when Jesus Christ’s righteousness was imputed to us, we made peace with God. We have
to maintain that peace. Every time there is sin in our lives, that peace is interrupted, and we cannot commune
freely with God. We are to get sin
confessed quickly so there will be peace between us and God again.
2. Help others make peace with God. The greatest thing about peacemaking is that we can go to
somebody who’s at war with God and make peace between that person and God. The minute they come to
Jesus Christ and makes peace with God, they will be a peace with us. They become God’s child and our
brother.
3. Make peace with men; bring them together with each other. It’s not easy, but a peacemaker can
build bridges between people. We will show that we’re sons of God if we’re peacemakers, even with our
enemies. Sometimes there’s a tremendous price to pay, and sometimes it’s even impossible. That’s why the
apostle Paul wrote, “If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.” Romans 12:18.
IV. The Merit of Peace.
The merit that belongs to the peacemaker is that of God’s children or sons and daughters. The Greek uses
huios for sons, not teknon. Teknon speaks of tender affection. Huios speaks of dignity and honor and
standing. so Christ was not talking merely about the
affection that belongs to us; He was talking about the dignity and the honor of being a son of God!
Have you ever considered what it means to be a son of God? God has a personal,
eternal love for you. God bears with your weakness and your sin. God accepts your imperfect service. God
provides for your every need, shield you from every danger, reveals to you His eternal truth.
When we die, this truth becomes the most wonderful thing of all. Psalms 116:15 says, “Precious in the
sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.” We really matter to God. We are His sons. He makes us
princes, kings and priests, fellow heirs. In 2 Timothy He calls us a “vessel unto honour.” Revelation 3:21
says, “To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne.”
God makes you an heir to everything he possesses. God works everything for your good. he keeps you from
perishing forever. And He gives you Heaven. You can tell such a son of God--he’s a peacemaker.
I. Blessed are the Peacemakers.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Matthew 5:9
Some people define peace as the absence of conflict or strife. As God sees it, peace is far more than the
absence of something. It is the presence of righteousness that causes right relationships. Peace is not just
stopping war; peace is creating righteousness that brings enemies together in love.
The peace of the Word of God never evades issues. The peace of Word of God is not peace at any price. It
is not a gloss. The peace of the Word of God conquers the problem. It builds a bridge. Sometimes it means
struggle, sometimes it means pain, sometimes it means anguish; but in the end, real peace can come.
Biblical peace is real peace.
Biblical peacemakers are not quite, easygoing people who just want to make no waves or no issues, who
lack justice and a sense of righteousness, who are compromisers and appeasers. People say, “Oh, he’s such
a peacemaker,” when really they mean, “He has no conviction.”
A true biblical peacemaker will not let sleeping dogs lie; he will not save the status quo. He does not say, “I
know the person’s doing wrong, but I would rather just have a peaceful situation. I just want to keep the
peace.”
So, the meaning of peace is resolving conflict by the truth, as you bring to bear the
righteousness of God.
II. The Menace to Peace.
What is it that hinders peace? If the meaning of peace is righteousness and truth, then the menace to
peace is error and lies. Jeremiah 17:9 says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked.”
How does a wicked heart manifest itself? Isaiah 48:22 tell us, “There is no peace, saith the LORD, unto the
wicked.” Jeremiah says man’s heart is deceitful, and Isaiah says he shall have no peace because of it.
If two people are fighting, it’s because of sin. Eliminate the sin and the fight’s over. The only real
peacemakers in the world are those who bring men to righteousness, to God’s standards.
Jesus Christ was the Prince of Peace and yet He created conflict. “And they were the more fierce, saying,
He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place” Luke 23:5. Paul
the apostle, who said that he was preaching the message of man’s reconciliation to God, the “gospel of
peace” he called it, created a riot everyplace he went!
We have to be willing to enter the conflict, to take the blows like Christ did, to take up our cross, to deny
ourselves, to pay the price, to be bold and charge right through with what we know is right. If we bow out of
the tough situations, we cannot be peacemakers.
If you have righteousness, purity, and holiness in your life, you will have peace. And if you have
righteousness, purity and holiness in your marriage or home, peace will be there, too. Because that’s always
the way. Once you have righteousness, you are at peace with God, with man, and with yourself.
